Happy Holidays!! Here is a special little story featuring the Disabilities Gang having a holiday adventure together. Stay tuned as JT and Emily will be telling you their stories very soon in JT’s Big Day and Emily and the Golden Skate. We hope you have a wonderful Holiday and give the gift of reading, too!
Hi, my name is Abby. My friends and I all make up the group we call the Disabilities Gang. In some ways we are different but in others we are the same as everybody else. I am blind, but that doesn’t stop me from going to horse camp every week. Carlos has cerebral palsy, but that doesn’t stop him from playing basketball every week with Billy, Joseph and Alex. My friend JT has autism, and he is obsessed with the local football team the Boxton Bulldogs. Emily us deaf, but that doesn’t stop her from being a competitive figure skater.
We spent the night at Carlos’s house because his van is equipped to carry all of us. Carlos’s mom, Rachel, made us pancakes for a special breakfast. She made pancakes for everyone except Carlos who had to have peaches and cream yogurt and JT who brought his own special breakfast. It was all yummy!
Then it was time for us to go to downtown Boxton to watch the Parade of Lights. We were very excited! JT’s mom won VIP passes so we had great seats. The tickets were won at a raffle at the end of training camp courtesy of the Boxton Bulldogs’ quarterback Marlon Bizbee.
Everyone had different favorite parts of the parade. I liked having an escort and being at the front of the line with all my friends. JT really liked the float with lights in the shape of Marlon Bizbee and the Bulldogs. Carlos liked sitting by the fire watching everybody ice skate. Emily enjoyed ice skating with all her friends since she usually only skates with her teammates and not her friends.
We all had a great time enjoying the holiday fun.
We always enjoy hanging out with each other and we can’t wait for the next adventure together…
